Women who work tend to mention their work experience and career accomplishments first. I want to start with my values and approach to life -- because truly it is our value system that dictates most other aspects of our complex lives. I have a strong sense of family and friendship. My family's love and support have allowed me to pursue opportunities that have led me down paths that fulfilled both social and professional goals. I believe in the rights of children to fully integrate in our society as effective communicators. I have spent over 20 years working with deaf children and their families, helping develop resources for a private school for the deaf, counseling families regarding educational choices; working with legislators to improve the lives of children with disabilities. Because of Hurricane Katrina, I was forced to relocate, and this "stepping stone" led me to the passionate advocacy and work with the St. Landry-Evangeline United Way, where my efforts help support 24 local non-profits that are shaping the lives, neighborhoods and communities of Louisiana. As a "hobby" or diversion, I joined five other women to open a retail gift shop in my small town. Having vast experience in marketing and small business (non-profit) management, I directed my skills toward the development and growth of this small enterprise. I have learned through this experience the true power of women as they work toward a common goal -- in this case, PROFIT!

Acadiana Country Crafts is a reflection of a culture, a heritage and small town America. Six women bring with them the richness and uniqueness of a community founded by an exiled population of French peasants and farmers. The love of our religious heritage is represented in the beautiful hand made rosaries; the love of country cooking is found in the homemade jellies, jams and relishes; vintage and antique collectibles are among our products, as well as contemporary home decor. We mix the old with the new with the latest in fashion -- the oragami and popcorn shirts and skirts, Miche purses and OneSole shoes that are interchangeable. Our online Cyber Store provides our customers with a wide variety of gift baskets and products. You know, living out in the country, there are not too many retail outlets. I say, our vision and our commitment to quality and service sets us apart from the typical specialty store or boutique. After all, how many shops offer free coffee, and a seat on the front porch with a wonderful country view of the Bayou Teche, the landlords cows and horses, and great sunsets!
