“Reach
Out. Reach Out and Touch Someone.”
How do we make connections with people in our lives? Our culture
tells us it’s proper and appropriate in almost every situation
to extend our hand and engage in a handshake. So, what happens
as we are touching them, looking into their eyes and saying “Nice
to see you”? Why do we do this? We do it to show respect.
We do it to create a bond and get their attention. And mostly,
we do it to make a connection. Physically connecting with someone
while we are speaking or listening and looking into their eyes
deepens the communication. It can bring your communication and,
even your relationship, to a whole new level. Next time you would
like to make an important point, simply touch someone’s
arm or their hand. Notice how they respond and notice how you
feel. You will undoubtedly feel closer, more understood and more
connected. Go ahead, reach out… and notice what is reaching
back for you. Now that’s Powerful!
